Lutetium aluminum garnet ͑LuAG͒ is the most promising candidate for a high-index lens material for use in microlithographic imaging lenses. In the deep ultraviolet spectral range the transmission of high-purity LuAG was measured using monochromatized synchrotron radiation. In the vicinity of the band gap below 7.8 eV, a scaling behavior of the absorption as a function of photon energy was observed. Temperature-dependent measurements allowed us to distinguish different absorption mechanisms which differ by their ability to couple to phonon excitations. Interpreting the Urbach tails measured at different temperatures, it was shown that the temperature independent tail is due to defects in the lattice, whereas the temperature-dependent part originates from the short term localization of exciton modes coupling to lattice distortions. These results allowed us to extrapolate the maximum transmittance which can be obtained with LuAG crystals at the lithographic wavelength of 193.39 nm. Accurate determination of the maximum transmission limit is critical in deciding whether the material can meet industry's specification for 193-nm-based high-index lithography.

Single crystalline LuAG fibers for homogeneous dual-readout calorimeters
For the next generation of calorimeters, designed to improve the energy resolution of hadrons and jets measurements, there is a need for highly granular detectors requiring peculiar geometries. Heavy inorganic scintillators allow compact homogeneous calorimeter designs with excellent energy resolution and dual-readout abilities. These scintillators are however not usually suited for geometries ...
متن کاملPreparation of LuAG Powders with Single Phase and Good Dispersion for Transparent Ceramics Using Co-Precipitation Method
The synthesis of pure and well dispersed lutetium aluminum garnet (LuAG) powder is crucial and important for the preparation of LuAG transparent ceramics. In this paper, high purity and well dispersed LuAG powders have been synthesized via co-precipitation method with lutetium nitrate and aluminum nitrate as raw materials. Ammonium hydrogen carbonate (AHC) was used as the precipitant. The influ...
متن کاملOn the Crystallization of Terbium Aluminium Garnet
Attempts to grow terbium aluminium garnet (Tb3Al5O12, TAG) by the Czochralski method lead to crystals of millimeter scale. Larger crystals could not be obtained. DTA measurements within the binary system showed that TAG melts incongruently at 1840 ◦C. The perovskite (TbAlO3, TAP) with a congruent melting point of 1930 ◦C is the most stable phase in this system. The region for primary crystalliz...

The granitoid intrusions of Dehnow, which is located in northwest of Mashhad in immediate contact with garnet-rich hornfels, contain large crystals of garnets. They provide an excellent opportunity to study the effect of host rocks in contamination of a garnet-bearing granitoid magma. The garnet crystals contain abundant inclusions that are indicative of igneous phases and are arranged in a ci...
متن کاملGROWTH OF ZnS SINGLE CRYSTALS BY CVT TECHNIQUE UNDER DIFFERENT MASS TRANSPORT STABILITY CONDITIONS
Abstract: A thermodynamic model was used to find out the optimum temperature for the growth of ZnS single crystals in closed ampoules by chemical vapor transport technique. Based on this model 1002 °C was found to be optimum temperature for 2 mg/cm3 concentration of transporting agent (iodine). ZnS Crystals were grown in optimum (1002 °C) and non-optimum (902 °C and 1102 °C) temperatures. The c...
